Our Story

Maple syrup was first made by the indigenous peoples of North American. According to aboriginal oral traditions and archaeological evidence, maple tree sap was being processed into syrup centuries before the Mayflower arrived on the shores of Cape Cod in 1620. This practice was adopted by European settlers, who gradually refined production methods.

Tapping maple trees and boiling the sap to make a delicious sweet syrup became a much enjoyed annual tradition and adventurous farmers like our family’s descendants migrated west and brought this customary practice with them. Daughertys were tapping maple trees in what is now Ohio since the late 1700s, before Ohio was officially declared a state in 1803. Thus began a two century-old family tradition.

Canadians and New Englanders often claim to make the best maple syrup. While we respect their efforts, we beg to differ. In fact, we think of Ohio as the Napa Valley of maple syrup and once you try Glenford Farms Maple Syrup we think you’ll agree. Some of the finest and best tasting syrup in the world is made in Ohio. So, what is it about Ohio maple syrup, is there something in the water? Well, the truth is that in addition to the world’s finest maple syrup Ohio has also produced an impressive number of exceptional people including Thomas Edison, Neil Armstrong, John Heisman, LeBron James, and six US presidents. Native Ohioans tend to be good-natured, great neighbors and most importantly they take their breakfast condiments very seriously. So maybe there’s something in the water and the maple syrup?

The current generation of Daugherty’s launched the Golden O brand of maple syrup in 2014 with a Kickstarter campaign. The reviews for this rare, limited edition maple syrup have been terrific! It is important to share that Glenford Farms of Ohio is a social benefit organization similar to organizations like Whole Foods Market and Patagonia. After paying our bills, we use the remaining resources of our organization to make charitable donations – primarily to initiatives which focus on education.

Our Mission has been and always will be:
